The co-developer of the classic mobile game "Subway Surfers," Kiloo Games, is going out of business.


Danish game developer Kiloo Games is reportedly facing closure, although no official announcement has been made. Several employees have confirmed the news on LinkedIn, stating that the entire studio has received termination notices effective at the end of the month.


According to Kiloo's official website, the studio currently employs more than 55 people.


The studio is best known as the co-developer of the classic mobile game "Subway Surfs", which they developed in partnership with SYBO at the time.


The game puts players in the role of a spray-painted teenager being chased by railroad guards, dodging incoming trains, navigating obstacles, and collecting gold coins. The game was released in 2012 and has been played over 4 billion times worldwide to date.


Kiloo's involvement in the game's development ends in 2020, and SYBO is now taking over full responsibility for the game.


In addition to Subway Surfs, the company, a mobile game developer, has also produced handheld adaptations of Lego, the animation Happy Tree Friends, and Hugo the Troll.


Subway Surfers is a touchscreen-based endless runner running on iOS and Android platforms, developed by Kiloo and Sybo. As of March 2013, the game has 26.5 million daily active users and 130 million total downloads. Kiloo plans to reach a total of 250 million downloads in 2013 and has already accumulated over one billion downloads.


In Subway Surfers, players will take on the identity of Jake, a child, to evade the police and hounds, shuttling through three railway tracks and oncoming trains.


Players must skillfully evade both obstacles and law enforcement while striving to collect as many gold coins as possible. When the user gets a certain amount of coins, he can buy props and characters.


There are magnets, flying backpacks, double score, sneakers, skateboards, and other props in Subway parkour, among which skateboards need to be triggered by tapping the screen twice in a row while parkouring and can be purchased in the store in different styles.


The rest of the props need to be obtained during the game and can be upgraded in the in-game shop to extend the effective time.


This game does not require internet access to play. However, players can share their top scores with friends on the social networking site Facebook, and they will see a list of results.


The game has received mixed reviews:


Metacritic rated "Subway Surfers" with a score of 71 out of 100, while user reviews averaged a score of 5.9 out of 10. GameSpot.com users rated the game 7 out of 10 and concluded that "Subway Surfers" is not merely a copy of "Temple Run."
