Lykkers, pack your bags because we’re heading to the spectacular Bernese Oberland in Switzerland!
We’ve uncovered some amazing spots in this alpine wonderland, and we’re excited to share our stories with you. Get ready to explore breathtaking landscapes, thrilling attractions, and a hotel so cozy you’ll never want to leave!
Our adventure started with a visit to Jungfraujoch, known as the "Top of Europe." We took the scenic Jungfrau Railway up to 3,454 meters, where we found ourselves surrounded by snow-capped peaks and endless glaciers. The observation deck offers stunning views of the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in Europe. The experience was surreal, and we even took a walk through the Ice Palace! The train ride costs CHF 95 for adults, and the area is open year-round from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Make sure to bring warm clothes, as the temperatures are quite chilly even in summer.
Next, we ventured to the Lauterbrunnen Valley, famous for its dramatic cliffs and 72 waterfalls. We hiked to the spectacular Staubbach Falls, which drops nearly 300 meters down into the valley below. The sound of the water crashing down made the whole experience feel like we were in a movie! The valley is also a paradise for adventure seekers, with opportunities for hiking, paragliding, and mountain biking. There’s no entrance fee, and the trails are accessible year-round. We recommend coming in the late spring or early summer when the waterfalls are at their fullest.
Our journey wouldn’t be complete without a stop in Grindelwald, a charming village nestled at the foot of the Eiger mountain. We spent the afternoon riding the First Cliff Walk and enjoying panoramic views of the Swiss Alps. For a thrill, we also took a zipline ride on the First Flyer, soaring through the air with snow-capped mountains all around us. The First Cable Car to the summit costs CHF 64 round-trip and operates from 8:30 AM to 5 PM.
After a long day of exploring, we found comfort at Hotel Alpenblick in Grindelwald. The rustic charm of the hotel, combined with breathtaking views of the mountains, made it the perfect retreat. We booked a double room for CHF 160 per night, which included breakfast and access to a spa with a sauna—perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. The hotel’s location is ideal for exploring the region, and the friendly staff made us feel right at home.
We found that Swiss trains are the best way to get around the Bernese Oberland. If you’re planning to visit multiple attractions, consider getting a Swiss Travel Pass, which gives you unlimited travel on public transportation. Don’t forget to try Swiss fondue and rosti, two local dishes that are hearty and delicious, perfect after a day of hiking. Be sure to pack layers, as weather in the mountains can change quickly.
The Bernese Oberland is a paradise for outdoor lovers, Lykkers! What part of this alpine adventure would you like to experience next?
