Pom Klementieff was born on May 18, 1986, in Quebec, Canada. Her father was of French-Russian descent, while her mother was Korean.

Named 'Pom' due to its similarity in pronunciation to 'spring' and 'tiger' in Korean, she spent her childhood in Japan, Canada, and the Ivory Coast, settling ultimately in France, where her burgeoning interest in performing arts led her onto the path of entertainment.

At five, her father's demise due to cancer and her Korean mother's struggle with schizophrenia left her under the care of her uncle and aunt. Describing her uncle as her "second father," tragically, he passed away when she was 18. After her uncle's passing, Pom briefly studied law during her undergraduate years to support her aunt, yet she found law uninspiring. She also worked as a waitress and saleswoman in France.

At 19, she secured a two-year scholarship at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris, studying under top teachers, which kickstarted her professional acting journey.

Her debut role came in the French independent film "Après lui" (2007), portraying the stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve's character. Despite having a mere three days of filming, she cherished the experience. During a scene where Pom's character is supposed to push someone downstairs, she accidentally fails herself, a shot retained by director Gaël Morel in the final film.

Her first leading role was in "Loup" (2009), a French movie about Siberian reindeer herders. She lived in a camp hours away from the nearest village, enduring freezing temperatures, bonding with the nomadic people, working with real wolves, riding reindeer, and swimming with horses in a lake.

Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2017 with her role as Mantis in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," she gained global recognition, making the character Mantis her own.

Mantis, an insect-like alien raised on Ego the Living Planet, possesses the ability to communicate with plants, perceiving their thoughts and emotions. Trained, she also has incredible agility and accelerates her body's healing rate through willpower.

Amidst the humor in the "Guardians" series, her interactions with Drax the Destroyer stand out, making them a successful duo in "Guardians Vol. 2."

While her entry into Marvel significantly boosted her fame and granted her an exclusive role, the constraints of portraying Mantis are evident, limiting her performance space. This remains a challenge for actors portraying similar characters, leaving many unaware of the real Pom.

Pom Klementieff's journey, from a nomadic childhood to her rise in the entertainment industry, showcases resilience and dedication. While her portrayal of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has garnered immense acclaim, her versatility and talent extend far beyond.

As she continues to navigate her career, her multifaceted abilities promise an exciting and diverse trajectory in the world of cinema, inviting audiences to witness the depth and range of her artistic prowess beyond the cosmic confines of her most famous role.
