Barrier Lake is accessible year-round, with ample opportunities for outdoor activities. It's a must-visit for anyone heading to Kananaskis Country!

If you're looking for adventure, we highly recommend hiking Fortress Mountain. This challenging yet rewarding hike offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. We were surrounded by alpine meadows and the scent of wildflowers as we made our way to the summit, where the views took our breath away. The hike is suitable for experienced hikers, and it's best to start early in the day. The mountain can be accessed via the Fortress Mountain Road, with the trailhead just a short drive from Kananaskis Village.

5. Nordic Skiing at Kananaskis Country Ski Area


If you're visiting in winter, don't miss the chance to experience Nordic skiing at the Kananaskis Country Ski Area. We had the opportunity to glide across the snow-covered trails, surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies. The trails here cater to all skill levels, making it perfect for both beginners and seasoned skiers. The ski area offers rentals and lessons, so it's a great option for anyone looking to try something new. The area is open daily during the winter months, from December through March.


6. The Beauty of Elbow Falls


We also spent some time at the famous Elbow Falls, a picturesque waterfall located just off the Elbow Falls Road. As we admired the rushing waters and surrounding forests, we felt completely immersed in the natural beauty of Kananaskis Country. The falls are easily accessible via a short walk from the parking lot, making it a great stop for families and anyone looking to experience Kananaskis' stunning landscapes. Elbow Falls is best visited in the spring or summer months, when the water is flowing at its fullest.
