The saxophone is a very romantic instrumental music widely used in jazz and modern pop light music. The main feature of the saxophone is the wonderful change of tone, its sound is deep and steady, full of emotion, soft and sad, like an echo in a valley.

No other instrument can make such a beautiful sound in moments of silence, what a wonderful thing to listen to the saxophone before going to bed and falling asleep.

The saxophone is a musical instrument made of metal. Compared with other brass instruments, its sound intensity is comparable to other brass instruments, but the sound intensity is not achieved by woodwind instruments.

The metal of the saxophone is bright and has the characteristics of a woodwind instrument. The sound of strong blowing is like a brass pipe, and the sound of weak blowing is like a wooden pipe.

The saxophone has a variety of sound ranges and tones, among which the four most common are the soprano, the tenor and the upper bass. The classical saxophone is dominated by the alto saxophone, while in jazz and pop music it is dominated by the alto and tenor. All saxophone fingerings are basically the same, and players can change instruments without fingering practice.

There are many variations in the timbre of the saxophone, but the sounds of different types and grades of saxophone are easily distinguishable from those of the clarinet, oboe, and trumpet. This is because the sound of the saxophone has these three characteristics.

1. Singing Features

The sound of the saxophone is full of singing characteristics, especially when playing lyrical music, it is very beautiful and smooth. Some people use "beautiful as a song" to describe the timbre of the saxophone, which is very apt.

2. Personification

The timbre of the saxophone has similar characteristics to the human voice, that is to say, the timbre of the saxophone is very similar or close to the human voice, giving people a sense of affinity, which is unmatched by other wind instruments such as violin, trumpet, oboe and so on.

3. Diversity

Since the saxophone is the pronunciation principle of the pom-style flute and the material characteristics of the pronunciation resonance body, it provides sufficient potential and huge development space for the innovation of playing skills.

This characteristic of saxophone has been fully reflected in the development practice of saxophone art for decades. The inclusiveness of the saxophone gives it the potential and conditions to absorb, learn and transplant other artistic expression skills, so that the timbre of the saxophone can be colorful and diverse.

The continuous innovation of saxophone playing technology has also added more updated colors to the saxophone sound. This feature of the saxophone is unique compared to keyboards, plucked instruments, woodwinds and other bowed instruments.

Regardless of the instrument, maintenance is a critical step in keeping it sounding perfect. Especially for beginners, the daily maintenance of the saxophone needs to pay attention to the following points:

1. Tube body

After playing, the water in the tube needs to be cleaned in time, put a cloth through the saxophone bell mouth, and then pull it out from the neck joint, repeat several times.

Always use a cleaning cloth to wipe away sweat and stains from the surface of the saxophone body, and use a sanitary swab to wipe between the keys and under the linkages.

2. Keyboard

If the keyboard gets wet after playing, use absorbent paper to sandwich it between the keyboard and the sound hole.

3. Maintenance

It is recommended to go to a professional saxophone repair center for a comprehensive maintenance of your saxophone once a year.

Check the screws securing each key ring weekly for looseness, and tighten them if they are loose.
