What is Mexican food?

Perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is tortillas, tacos, and other snacks, but there is actually a great deal more to Mexican cuisine.

Mexican food is one of the five major cuisines in the world, along with French, Indian, Chinese, and Italian cuisine.

The first thing that comes to mind when we think of Mexican food is corn, which is also known as the land of corn because of the many foods made from it.

Likewise, Mexico is the world's most spicy country, with hundreds of red, yellow and green chillies.

Mexico has long been a favourite holiday destination in the world, attracting sun-seekers and food lovers. Here are just a few of the classic Mexican favourites we've introduced to you.

Tacos, or tacos as we always call them, are the most iconic Mexican dish and are loved by Mexicans for their simplicity of preparation.

A tortilla is filled with meat and vegetables and served with salsa, guacamole, crushed tomato sauce, etc.

The tortilla is then rolled up and a delicious taco is ready.

Tortillas are a traditional Mexican dish made from fried tortillas and cheese, filled with mushrooms, meat and vegetables and served with salsa, guacamole, sour cream and often topped with diced tomatoes, onions, lettuce and jalapenos.

The cheese is so rich and rich that it is sure to impress your taste buds.

Fajitas are often found on menus in Mexican restaurants, but to the locals they are much less represented than tacos.

Fajita means loincloth and refers to the meat on the belly of a cow, which is considered to be the best meat for Mexican barbecue and has now developed into chicken, and more.

The grilled meat is served on tortillas with a variety of sauces, and the fajitas are ready with all their flavors!

Tortilla soup is a very traditional and authentic Mexican soup, with an extremely strong sour and garlicky flavor that will leave you with a tangy aftertaste on your tongue.

The soup is cooked with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and crushed Mexican flakes and served hot.

To serve, add the crushed Mexican flakes and corn kernels to an empty bowl, then pour the soup over and finish with the avocado.

The history of the enchilada filling dates back to the Mayan period when people in the Valley of Mexico would eat tortillas, which were wrapped in small fish.

Today, both cornmeal and flour tortillas are available and are stuffed with meat, cheese, seafood, beans and vegetables.

The tortillas are then served with chilli sauce for the perfect Mexican breakfast.

Tortillas were originally developed for the Aztec, Mayan and Inca tribes when people needed food to travel long distances.

They made pockets of cornmeal dough, stuffed with sweet or savoury fillings, wrapped in banana leaves or corn husks and then steamed.

The fillings ranged from meat and cheese to fruit, vegetables and peppers. Remember to remove the corn husks before eating!

Guacamole is undoubtedly one of the most popular dishes in Mexico, but few people know that this traditional sauce dates back to the Aztec people.

Guacamole is made from mashed avocados, onions, tomatoes, lemon juice and chillies (sometimes a clove or two of garlic).

It is usually served with tortilla chips or as a side dish.
