One of our favorite spots in Maricopa County was the Desert Botanical Garden, where we immersed ourselves in the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. With over 50,000 desert plants, including stunning cacti and vibrant wildflowers, we felt like we were walking through a living gallery. As we strolled along the trails, we learned about the unique ecosystems and the various species that thrive in the arid climate.
The Desert Botanical Garden is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, with an admission fee of about 24.95 USD for adults. We highly recommend visiting in the spring when the flowers are in full bloom, creating a colorful spectacle that’s perfect for photos!
If you’re seeking outdoor adventure, look no further than South Mountain Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the country. We embarked on a hike along the Mormon Trail, where we were rewarded with panoramic views of the Phoenix skyline and the surrounding desert. The trail is well-maintained and offers a range of difficulties, making it accessible for everyone.
South Mountain Park is open from 5 AM to 11 PM daily, and the best part? It’s free to enter! After our hike, we enjoyed a picnic at one of the many scenic overlooks, soaking in the beauty of the Arizona landscape.
For a fun and educational experience, we visited the Arizona Science Center, where science comes to life! From interactive exhibits to live demonstrations, we were captivated by the hands-on learning opportunities. We particularly enjoyed the planetarium show, which took us on a journey through the stars and planets, sparking our curiosity about the universe.
The Arizona Science Center is open from 10 AM to 5 PM and tickets are around 19.95 USD for
To make the most of your time in Maricopa County, here are a few practical tips we gathered along the way. First, stay hydrated, especially when hiking or spending time outdoors; the Arizona sun can be intense! We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and filling it up at the many water stations available in public areas.
If you’re planning to explore multiple attractions, consider purchasing a CityPASS, which offers discounted entry to various attractions, including the Arizona Science Center and the Desert Botanical Garden. Also, be sure to check the operating hours for each attraction before your visit, as they can vary, especially during holidays.
